Description
The wine
Kura is winemaker Samantha Connew's Shiraz and Pinot Noir blend, now in its second release. The Shiraz (75%) comes from the Marengo Vineyard near Richmond, planted in 2017. The Pinot Noir (25%) is from a 2004 vineyard on the other side of Richmond. The parcels are wild-fermented separately, the Pinot with 50% whole bunches, then aged for 10 months in French oak puncheons.
Tasting notes
In Samantha's words: black cherries and blackberries, rosemary stem, pepper berry and Dutch liquorice. The palate is juicy and fresh, with blue and red fruit, just enough grip and a snappy finish.
How to enjoy
Serve at 14–16°C. Its pepper and fruit suit firm cheeses: try Bruny Island 1792, Cornish Kern or Hafod Organic Cheddar.
