The piece
Revol has made culinary porcelain in Saint-Uze, in the Drôme, since 1768, and is still run by the same family. Designer Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance created Caractère for its 250th anniversary. The pieces are made from a black culinary clay; the glaze is wiped from the rim by hand to show the raw clay, like a charcoal stroke, so no two edges are the same.
In use
Bake eggs en cocotte, a small gratin or a crème brûlée, then take it straight to the table. It also suits a baked Bûche de Chèvre with honey and thyme.
