The piece
David Mellor (1930–2009) was one of Britain's great post-war designers, best known for his cutlery. His son Corin Mellor now leads the company from its Round Building factory in Hathersage, in the Peak District. Corin designed these mills, exclusive to David Mellor, in turned European beech with a durable lacquer finish and a ceramic CrushGrind mechanism that grinds salt or pepper from fine to coarse.
In use
Fill one with Pep Cambodian peppercorns and another with sea salt; a few grains of rice on top of the salt keep it dry. Pair it with a natural mill, and keep both in the beech mill stand.
