Stargazer Kura Shiraz Pinot 2023
The Shiraz for the first release of this Shiraz/Pinot comes from a vineyard in the Tamar Valley and also a vineyard in the Coal River Valley.
Co and wild fermented, with seven months in French oak.
The final blend is 70% Shiraz / 30% Pinot Noir.
Aromatic and spicy on the nose, with plenty of roasted blueberries and dried cherries, as well as some lifted violet floral notes. Chinese five spice and Sichuan pepper follows through on the palate which features fine feathery tannins in combination with plenty of generous fruit, finishing with trademark Tasmanian bright freshness.
About Stargazer
Sam moved to Australia, undertaking the Advanced Wine Assessment course at the Australian Wine Research Institute in 2000. Chosen as a scholar at the ’02 Len Evans Tutorial, winning the George Mackey Award for the best wine exported from Australia in ’04
She was awarded International Red Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge, London in ’07.
After a highly successful and lengthy position as chief winemaker at Wirra Wirra, Sam moved to Tasmania (via the Hunter Valley) to make the first wines for her own business, something she said she would never do.
The emotive name (and label) is in part a tribute to Abel Tasman, the first European to sight Tasmania before proceeding to the South Island of NZ, navigating by the stars.
