The world is filled with thousands of amazing varieties of cheese, each with their own distinct personality; from the delicate, herbaceous, citrus flavours of a goats cheese to the toothsome nuttiness of an Alpine cheese, or a buttery, spicy and creamy blue. The diversity of their flavours is matched by the endless array of colours, textures, shapes and sizes that make each cheese unique.  Cheese really is magnificent.

Our Business

The Artisan Cheese Room was born from a simple love of cheese and an ever growing appreciation of the traditional craftsmanship of cheese making.

We pride ourselves on sourcing the best artisan cheeses from around the world. Our cheeses are perfectly maintained within our stunning temperature and humidity controlled cheese room. Artisan cheesemaking is seasonally dependent and because quality is critical to us our cheese selection will regularly change.

Our goal is to uphold the noble art of the cheesemonger and guide our customers to the perfect selection. We will do this by providing passionate and informative service and above all upholding our mantra - Taste, Taste and Taste!

Our Shop

The Artisan Cheese Room is located in Manly, straight over the road from the ferry wharf. The shop is perfectly positioned on the corner of East Esplanade and Wentworth St, directly opposite Garfish restaurant, with views across Manly Cove beach.

The shop is designed to celebrate the amazing cheeses of the world. The showpiece of the shop is the stunning Cheese Room - which is humidity and temperature controlled to ensure that all the cheeses are perfectly maintained.

The variety of cheese changes with the seasons, but the Cheese Room usually contains around sixty cheeses. Additionally, a wide range of cheese related accompaniments, tools, crockery and utensils are all on offer to enhance your tasting experience.

We lovingly prepare cheese hampers, cheese boards, cheese gift boxes, as well cheese wedding and celebration cakes so that we can help you celebrate any, and every, special occasion.

Taste is critical and we recommend that you taste before you buy. Our knowledgeable cheesemongers will help ensure that you have an enjoyable experience.

The Founders

The Artisan Cheese Room has been established by husband and wife team, Joanna and Paul Thompson. They are both incredibly passionate about cheese and have created a shop which is true celebration of this unique and utterly wonderful food.

Joanna is a trained chef who having graduated from the acclaimed ‘Leith’s School of Food and Wine’ in London, then began working at ‘The Wolseley’ on Mayfair. Joanna started working with cheese almost 10 years ago when she trained and worked at one of the world’s great cheese shops, Neal’s Yard Dairy in London.

Having spent many successful years working in a corporate environment Paul has decided to change careers and is now tremendously excited to be able to combine his fascination with delicious food and great service.

Together they are proud to present The Artisan Cheese Room. A cheese lovers heaven where quality and taste combine with a bespoke and considered customer experience.
